Editing Day 1- Fail

Today we reserved the computer lab to transfer the data from the cameras to the computer and begin editing. I spoke with R, our GT and emerging technology guru, explaining my problems at home and asking for suggestions for what to do in the lab. She indicated that the software for the Flip Cameras will do the conversion automatically and that I could use iMovie or I could use the Flip Share software. She suggested that I preload the movies during my planning time and she would help then if necessary. This seemed like a good plan. I unfortunately got busy during my planning time and couldn't preload them. When my class came in I warned them that I didn't know how this was going to go. We found that when they tried to import the movies it came in blank or only sound was available with no visual. It was a catastrophe. Eventually I asked them to just work on their transition slides and some of the features they were going to want to add in later on. I sent a student to R for help. R showed the student what to do on one of her computers. The student came back but unfortunately that procedure didn't work on the lab computers. I debriefed with R about why this hadn't worked. Last year the Flip software was supposed to be loaded and the files were there but were not fully installed to use. I guess I am the only one who has tried this. Oh well! Tomorrow I am going to either use her room or borrow some laptops and try again. If I have enough time I am going to try and preload the video. I truly appreciate R offering her room and computers for us to work on this.
