Getting rid of excuses!

How often do "we hear my printer is out of ink," "I lost my USB drive," or "I left it on my computer?"
HomePipe could help us out! This FREE service allows you to access your home files when you aren't at home. So far it works on PCs and MACs and the iPhone. From a teaching perspective students could have a folder on their home computer labeled with their name and they would grant access to the teachers for that one folder. Any assignment for school would reside in that folder. Students would still be responsible for printing the assignment or any other requirements but if there was an issue there it is! I see this being very helpful for English classes. Positives
  • Takes some of the stress off of the transferring of files
  • The teacher can see that the student actually did the assignment even if they didn't physically hand it in
  • Could be useful for group assignments
  • Teachers could download and grade assignments without bringing home lots of papers
  • Saves paper
Drawbacks
  • Appears as though this is a one way file sharing. You wouldn't be able to make changes after you download and have those changes at home (if I am understanding this correctly)
  • Students have to have a home computer not be reliant on a public access one
  • Students have to have internet access
  • Permissions would have to be set up correctly so that teachers are not accidentally accessing more files and folders than they should from the student's home computer
